Tomorrow's Afternoon TeaNeocha, China’s premier online creative community, has just released the third album on its Netlabel: Tomorrow’s Afternoon Tea / 明天的下午茶.

You may remember a post a while back where we interviewed Neocho CEO Sean Leow, and talked about their awesome NEXT player, which streams indie Chinese music for free.

The new album contains 10 tracks loaded with the syrupy sweet sounds of some of China’s best female indie vocalists. And, get this, it’s 100% free! You can download the entire album from this link [38 MB zip file].

Tomorrow’s Afternoon Tea Track List

  1. coverpeople:我们
  2. 范世琪:梦境
  3. 漂亮亲戚:hearing
  4. 诺琪:coffee’s
  5. 蘑菇红:屋顶花园
  6. April&Box:小事情
  7. 棒棒糖乐团:a song 4 my angel
  8. 丹麦:火车司机男朋友
  9. 汤旭:失乐园
  10. Today:结束之前

The release coincides with the latest edition of Blow Up (放大), Neocha’s e-Zine (check out this post – or download the ‘zine here – at 120MB I couldn’t be bothered, sorry Sean).

[Edit: Sean's coaxing in the comments guilted me into giving the download a shot. If you're in China, that 120MB size shouldn't scare you off. Neocha has some damn fast servers - I was getting speeds > 250kb/s - had it downloaded in about 5 minutes).

Opening the ezine you quickly see where all that space is being used. The beautifully-done Flash-based design is inspired, and anything but bloated - as I originally assumed. All but the controls are in Chinese, but the 'zine is visual enough that even non-Chinese readers will be impressed and entertained.]

I downloaded that album 2 days ago, after seeing it on Danwei. It’s really good. I especially like the band ‘Coverpeople’ who sometimes do melodic post-rock (with no singing) and sometimes really lovely guitar songs too.

The 汤旭 track was beautiful as well.

And they thoughtfully put in a JPG of the artwork, so it looks nice now that I’ve put it into iTunes.

Thanks Ryan!

I agree that 120MB is huge, but it’s worth it! With all the time you spend online, I think you can afford to run a large download in the background :)

@Sean: Fair enough – d/l’ed and post edited :-) You’re right, it was worth it.
