In Shanghai? Like cats? These folks need your help

Volunteers and the cats at PPAR

I was recently contacted by Paw Pals Animal Rescue (PPAR) and asked if I could lend a hand in getting the word out about their organization to the foreigner community in Shanghai. The animal lover that I am, I’m more than happy to oblige. If you, or anyone you know is a cat lover and wouldn’t mind donating time, money or a warm home; please see the bottom of this post for details on how to get in touch with the group.

PPAR is a Shanghai-based shelter founded in 2007 by a group of individual animal rescuers that did not have a safe place to keep their rescued cats while they looked for people to adopt them. The creation of the shelter allowed the rescuers to help even more animals in need, and has since led to permanent efforts to keep and expand the space, comfort and tranquility of the shelter for all rescued cats and kittens.

The main objective of the group is to help homeless cats in the Shanghai area, providing a midway home for the rescued animals until they are placed in responsible, loving homes. I had a chance to ask Sophia Lin, a senior member of PPAR, a few questions about the organization; here’s what she had to say:

Travis published in Independent Ink Magazine

Just a quick little note to mention that Lost Laowai contributor Travis Lee recently had his short story, The Journey Through Nanking, published in Independent Ink Magazine.

About the short story:

During the Nanking Massacre, a young girl becomes separated from her family. With help from her spirit-guide, she must cross the warzone and overcome her fear to find them.

Have a nice Shanghai home? Show it off on HGTV

Home & garden Television (HGTV) is hunting for some Shanghai-based American expats to feature on a new international series profiling what it’s like to live abroad.

HGTV Producers want to hear from fun, outgoing, enthusiastic Americans Expats who are living in Shanghai RIGHT NOW!

In each episode, our host will experience Shanghai through the eyes of expat families. From the design of your space (what features of your home are typical of properties in Shanghai?) to the lifestyle and culture of the area (what major life changes have you experienced as a result of your move? What do you do for fun?), the American Expats will give viewers a first hand look at what it’s like to live overseas.

China Blog Network: Redux

Back in 2008 I added a new feature to Lost Laowai called the “China Blog Network”, with the simple premise of creating a Webring for China blogs.

Membership consistently grew over the next year and a half, but the script that was handling the CBN was beginning to buckle under the pressure. Wanting a more stable environment, as well as a more expansive and expandable set of features, I began work in my free time on migrating the CBN to its own Web site.

And while I am still flattening a few kinks and shooing a couple assiduous gremlins out of the system, I’d like to officially announce the launch of The China Blog Network (dot com).
