The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, what upon opening this year would have been one of Beijing’s most exclusive and luxurious hotels, lit up like a, well, like a lantern tonight while the rest of the country celebrated Lantern Festival.
Proving again the newsability of Twitter, the story broke online as it happened, with videos appearing on YouTube while the building was still ablaze.

With more than enough 5* hotels in Beijing and the ones that are open reporting less than 30% occupancy the opportunity that mass uncontrolled fireworks presents to a cash strapped owner might be too good to miss.
Yeah I heard about while I was still out at the Lantern Festival with friends. Someone got a text message from a relative in Beijing.
