Domestic Air Travel
There are numerous ways to get around the country, and thank Buddha for that, as it's a massive slab of land. By far the quickest and often the most convenient is by air. Though still more costly than the alternatives, domestic air travel in China is quickly edging out the competition for many foreign visitors. With a number of carriers operating an extensive network of routes, China has completely embraced the age of air travel.
Tickets can be bought via any local travel agent, many of which will do a reasonable impression of English to get the sale. If doing stuff online is your thing (which, evidently, it is), you can check out eLong or Ctrip for some Web-based ticketing. Both offer competent English service.
