I do organize coffee get togethers once in a while in Beijing; our group is quite big, so far we are about 25 to 30 people that we get together once a week and spend some fun time.
I'm looking for some coffee/restaurant bars where to hold our gatherings, should be big enough to put at least 30 people easily.
If you know of any place, please let me know.
Thanks

Hey ND,
You're right, there are many "Dikran's" in Turkey, but they are Armenians, my grandfather's name was also Dikran but he fled Turkey during the Armenian genocide, I don't know if you're aware, in 1915 Turkey, (The Ottoman Turks) massacred more than 1.5 million Armenians who were in Turkey, many fled the country many died and many change their family names and stayed in Turkey......
Actually Dikran was a famous king in Armenia around the year 85 to 55 before Christ, at that time the name was spelled "Tigran" but then in the west Armenia the spelling was changed.
I didn't know that you're Spanish, nice to meet you, the next time I will go to Xian, I will definitely meet you......
By the way, I am also a wine fan and I make wine tasting presentations here in Beijing, I did a presentation 2 weeks ago, but that was Italian organic wine, here's the link of some pictures: http://www.bjstuff.com/photo/albums/wine-tasting-event-march-19
I will be having another one very soon and that will be Spanish wines....... hope you were in Beijing so that I could send you an invitation......
Cheers
Dikran: Aaah, Ok! I didn't know that. Interesting. Dikran is a very popular first name in Turkey as well. Happy that you have found a place for your event. As a Spaniard, I hope that you had the chance to try Spanish wine as well
. I am a big wine-fan myself.

Hey Boyce,
This conversation is 6 month old but it's ok.
we had a get together at "unconditional Love" once but that was last summer, the place might be ok for summer, sitting outside not in winter, inside is too small for us, plus the group s expending....
Thanks for the tip
DG
Hey ND,
sorry I'm replying late for this, I've been in hospital for some time, but now I'm ok, then I had lost my password.....
No, I'm not Turkish, I am Armenian, Dikran is a very ancient Armenian name, actually it is spelled "Tigran"; there is the western Armenian and the eastern Armenian spelled a bit differently.
I didn't check the SIT yet, probably I will look the place for my wine tasting events as well,
see the post I made here: http://www.lostlaowai.com/laowai-answers/food-and-drink/wine-tasting-eve...
Take care

Given the size of your group, you would take up most of the space at this place, but Unconditional Love coffee shop is an option. It is in that arty strip near Pingod apartments and they claim to have professionally trained baristas - I'm no coffee expert, but it tastes good to me, and there are dozens of options, from espresso to white chocolate mocha. It also has a nice atmosphere: think plush chairs, knickknacks on the shelves, etc.
Cheers, Boyce

I'll try for our nest get together.
Do you speak Arabic??
Merhaba Dikran,
S.I.T. (Sculpting In Time) Coffee (they have more than just coffee: Complete Dishes, Cake, Wine, Beer, Tea etc. at reasonable prices). That is what I would recommend you. I like them, they are very well organized and with an unified branding all over China, no matter where you visit them (It is a taiwanese chain) they all have the same atmosphere and design. Homy. Approach the Manager directly to arrange the meetings and he can reserve places for you. As for my experience (I do organize big meetings here in Xi'an for our mag) they are cool about it. I am sure in Beijing it is also the case.
