How to get around Wuhan? What is there to see and do? Where are the major shopping centers? How to get there?
Arrived in Wuhan last week Wednesday for a teaching job at the Polytechnic University - my first gig here. I'm a little underwhelmed as my sponsor has been less than generous with info on how to get around town, how/where to buy a bus pass and a bus schedule, how to get to a major shopping center (some things are just not available in the small stores around the college). And I have asked him! Anyone familiar with Wuhan? Anyone in Wuhan can help me out? I'm ready for my adventure to begin and I really want to enjoy my time here, but I'm getting a bit frustrated/depressed with just hangin' around the campus...

Where is the polytechnic uni - in Wuchang i assume...you aren't leaving us much info to work with - get your co-workers to write down the characters of the destination you want to go then match those to the bus station signs.
Also type these characters or pinyin into baidu/google map, along with your place of origin, and it can show you how to get there. No need for a bus schedule, they come every 10 minutes or so.
There are a few carrefour, etc around for most your needs....you posted this question 2 weeks ago, you've probably figured this out by now??
I am pretty sure wuhan is actually 3 cities in one....i stayed near the Howard johnson hotel on the river....there is a very big mall near there and i even found hard liqour in the walmart..haha. anyway you do a search on that. I went ther in Jan 2008...beware that the snow covers the abundant marble...a deadly trap...always walk on the mats etc...I am afraid i can't tell you more than that...i don't know where exactly you are in Wuhan.
