Foreigner who cried ‘fraud’ and his father to be fined, detained and deported

foreigner-schemed-chaoyang-beijing-01Beijing police have announced the foreigner who originally cried “fraud” after being accused by a woman of hitting her with his motorbike will be fined, detained and deported.

The incident occurred on December 2 and immediately went viral across Chinese social media. Initially netizens appeared to favour the foreigner’s story, as tales of (fake) accident victims blaming people just trying to help abound in China. However, the tide quickly turned as more reporting was performed and additional information about the case came to light, including two videos — one showing the foreigner cursing out the alleged victim and one showing what appeared to be him crashing into her after an illegal turn.

Further investigation by the police revealed he was responsible for the accident, and was driving an unregistered motor vehicle at the time. The investigation also revealed the foreigner and his father were working illegally.

[The perpetrator] was given punishment including seven-day detention and a fine of 1,500 yuan for his aforementioned violations of traffic regulations, said police.

Police also found that the man and his father were working in Beijing without permit. According to relevant Chinese laws, he will be detained for five days and fined 5,000 yuan, and his father will be detained 14 days and fined for 10,000 yuan. They will be deported from China according to law, police said.

Their employer will be fined 20,000 yuan, according to police.

  1. As usual, they will be fined the legal maximum for individuals working illegally and their employer (who happens to be Chinese) the minimum legal for a company. It is always the same and is incredibly xenophobic, we should also automatically apply the maximum fine for Chinese working illegally back home, and there are many.

  2. It will take some time, but I really wish foreigners in China had more rights and more justice.
I heard a story of a foreigner who was beaten up by 4 chinese guys for no reason in a bar, however he could punch one of them in the face during the beating, after that at the hospital, when he woke up, was being fined 30000 rmb for the guys dental costs and fined. Thats just self-defense

  3. you guys are living in China??? if you don’t like the chinese way, or laws, or society, just go home! im foreign too, i lived in America and Spain all my life, im sure , here in China the foreigns have better treatment than in my country, and we know the 80% of the foreigns in China are arrogant, and think they deserve a lot, just because are foreigns, always complaining about everything, if you wanna hang out, go to the bar, or club, you must respect them, dont matter is they are right or not, you are in their country….. in your countries let foreigns work without permission ???? usually the foreigns come to china looking for jobs, because in theirs country dont have any chance….. im tired of arrogant foreigns in China….. pay attencion when you are in the street , is enough…. 4. I have been reading and enjoying many of the well written articles on Lost Laowai since I stumbled upon it late last year. Sadly it is the comment fields that truly show the poor attitudes of many expats here.
It is bad enough to see other laowai and have them clearly pretend they don’t see you. A simple head nod would be nice. We have all experienced this strange phenomenon. lol
But this blatant belittling and ranting at others comments goes well beyond that in proving that many should be weeded out as social misfits.
However, there are many of us who understand that we are ambassadors and represent the people of our homeland outside of China. We also understand that we are probably the only example of a laowai that individual Chinese will ever see; as such we should be on our best behavior.
The young man in this story clearly did hit the woman with the vehicle. As such he should have profusely apologized at once. Perhaps the conflict could have been downplayed, if not completely avoided.
I believe he received what he deserved in the end.

  5. – his moto crashed into her
    – she [likely] argued in a way that scared him
    – in a fight/flight reaction – he chose ‘fight’
    – people’s defenses rose and a full investigation revealed a whole box of wrongdoings

really nothing illogical about this outcome, to be honest
