The dance shows the past, present and future, as well as people’s feeling towards life and death, expressing the East Asian philosophy of macroscopic consciousness to the universe and life.
Rite of Spring has a history of more than one hundred years. Rather than just retelling the story, choreographer Shen Wei structures his own Rite of Spring following the construction of the music itself. The name Folding, comes from Lao Zi’s “great sound are silent, and great vision are intangible.”
Shen Wei, the famous Chinese American choreographer, visual artist and director, won the Nijinsky Award and MacArthur Genius Award. Shen Wei Dance Arts, founded in 2000, has been invited to perform at the Lincoln Center International Arts Festival five times.
