Huang ShengyiI’m not entirely sure why it’s “nine” women, and not 10, or five, or 20 – but whatever the reason, Complex.com has come out with their list of “The 9 Hottest Chinese Women“.

No huge surprises really, other than perhaps the fact that five of the women on the list are over 30 (including the just-turned-thirty Zhang Ziyi), and two are over 40. Not sure why I would have assumed more than two of the “hottest” Chinese women would be in their 20s, perhaps because “hottest” tends to carry with it a “youthful” label. Meh, semantics.

  1. this is just an attempt at numerical justification. i was once told that instead of a dozen roses you give 99 or 9 in china. maybe it’s some subtle esoteric culture reference.

i was kinda surprised too since it seems there are at least 10 attractive women in china, possibly more. big country and all.

  2. Kellen, you’re right about the roses, because 9 means eternity. Another good bunch of roses is 11- 一生一世. As for the list of Chinese hotties, the number is just as arbitrary as any other.

  3. Maybe you laowai guys have different taste. These stars are OK, but calling them the hottest in China is simply groundless. This is rather a list of the most well-known Chinese actresses?

Frankly No. 3 is such a turn-off and I refuse to watch any movie she is in.
